Keep It Simple! and lots of Turquoise!

Today is the last day of term before winter break here, so I have cool on my mind - a perfect time to join in Keep It Simple with lots of cool Turquoise!

As soon as I saw this Merry Christmas washi I knew I would have to create some Merry Christmas deer - it just appeals to my sense of humour!  I created a washi covered rectangle of cardstock, and die cut the Memory Box Trio of deer.  This turquoise background and cardstock base are from Hero Arts (thank you Joy!), and help to keep this very turquoise card also very CAS, with the simple addition of some gorgeous sentiment stamps from Paper Smooches Christmas Sampler and Happy Camper, stamped in Hero Arts Tide Pool, and Paper Smooches Wise Dies Christmas Words.

Love to see how you are inspired this fortnight!

The Mixed Media Card Challenge... and ME!

I have been having so much FUN playing with mixed media lately, that when I heard about the fabulous new Mixed Media Card Challenge with Shery Russ (owner of Stamplorations), I decided to try for the Design Team, and was over the moon when I was accepted!

I'm so excited to be part of this AMAZING DT, and
can't wait for you to join in the fun of the first monthly
The Mixed Media Card Challenge on Tuesday July 1st.

So, you may be thinking... WHAT IS A MIXED MEDIA CARD?

Straight up, a mixed media card is a card that is created using a variety of mediums.
For the Mixed Media Card Challenge blog, it means using any of the following in addition to the usual stamps and inks:

  • Mediums that add texture. Some examples: fabric, stitching, embossing paste, texture gel, gel medium, modeling paste, gesso, textured paper, glitter, found objects
  • Mediums that give dimension. Some examples: die-cuts, chipboard, embossing powders, epoxy/thick stickers, embellishments, found objects
  • Mediums that allow you to use (and even combine) different techniques. Some examples: watercolor, pastels, alcohol inks, markers, chalks, acrylic paints, oils, crayons
Even using various tools and supplies is okay. Some examples: die-cutting machine (manual or electronic), monoprinting tools (Gelli plate), embossing folders, punches, dies, stencils, templates.
Basically, a card that has stamps and inks PLUS at least any two of the above (embossing paste and alcohol inks, for example) is a mixed media card in our book :o)

CAS{E} this FUSION...

This WEEK we have a super fabulous FUSION, teaming up with a super special sketch from CAS{E} this Sketch - so if you play along with just the Sketch or create a FUSION, you can also link up your card over at CAS{E} this Sketch!

Believe it or not, I created a FUSION this week - by turning the sketch on it's side and using a circle as my card base - inspired by so many circles in the inspiration photo.  The background cardstock was run through the cuttlebug with an embossing plate - similar to the pattern on the gold glass from the inspiration photo. The butterfly was stamped in white ink and sprinkled with gold Metal Melts and heat embossed, and the gorgeous gold embossed sentiment is from Altenew, stamped on a Paper Smooches fishtail flag.

How to join in the fun...
1. Play with just the sketch challenge.
2. Play with just the inspiration photo challenge.
3. Or you can create FUSION by combining BOTH challenges into one card.
4. Use the challenge graphic and link back to Fusion in your post.
5. Please read the other considerations on the Our Rules Page before playing along.

Can't wait to see how you will be inspired by this WEEKS FUSION!

Winnie & Walter Seize the Playdate...

I had been patiently waiting for my floral stamps from Winnie and Walter to arrive, but as stalking my postie has not paid off yet, and I couldn't wait to join in the Winnie and Walter Playdate #2, I created today's card using just the Colour Palette for inspiration - although I think my green went a tad more lime than olive ;)

The background panel was created by smooshing Distress Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar onto waxed paper, then spritzing with water before twisting a piece of watercolour paper in the ink pools. The resulting pattern reminded me of a nebula, so I stamped Walter & Winnie Scenery: Big Bang Confetti stars with Versamark Watermark ink then embossed in white. The Walter & Winnie The Big, the Bold and the Happy sentiment was also stamped in Versamark Watermark, and embossed in Zing Orchid on a clear vellum fishtail flag panel. The vellum is secured in place by gluing behind the sentiment, and adding a couple of extra dabs of Dimensional Magic behind the Studio Calico wooden veneer stars, inked with Momento Ink Wedding Dress.

With these gorgeous summer colours, I'm playing along with

Let's Celebrate & Paint the Town Red...

I'm always challenged by the Runway Inspired Challenges, and this fortnight was no exception, but I really wanted to join in the fun, especially with Pretty Pink Posh as sponsor! The "hills" on the side panels of this outfit reminded me of a landscape, combined with these colours my first thought was of the saying "Paint the Town Red", and so the idea for this "Let's Celebrate... and paint the town red" card was born. My NBUS Altenew Sketchy Cities America and Super Script stamps were perfect for the occasion - I LOVE the way they stamp so perfectly for embossing. The cityscape was painted in watercolour and fussy cut to maintain the clean lines of the inspiration outfit.

Had super fun with this fortnights Keep It Simple Splatter theme, perfect for this gorgeous Ink Splatter stamp from Neat & Tangled, combined with this cute birthday sentiment stamp by The Alley Way Stamps, and finished with three little MME enamel dots.
Hope you take the time to get inky with Splatters!

To help celebrate the fabulous Darnell's 500th birthday... oops, no, that's not it! 500 followers, you can hop on over and join in the fabulous #1 N.BUS to French Ship Challenge! (I'm wondering whether this qualifies for Addicted to CAS Transport Challenge, or perhaps I've missed the boat LOL!)

I broke open my NBUS The Alley Way Stamps True Colors to play along (plus "you" from Jibber Jabber), so I'm joining in the fun at TAWS Be Inspired Challenge...

A-very CASual Father's Day...

Thought I'd POP in to share a quick CAS Father's Day card. Even though Father's Day isn't for a couple of months in this corner of the world, there are a couple of masculine challenges at the moment, so I thought I'd join in to make sure I don't miss the boat!  This card combines AEI{heart}U Masculine / Father's Day Challenge, Paper Players Red, White, Blue and CASual Fridays What A Catch to create a guy card with the following catch... you can't use kraft as a color at all, AND you have to include some sort of ribbon.

I created a First Prize rosette for the Best. Dad. Ever. using Avery Elle's The Man stamp sentiment stamped in Momento Ink Nautical Blue and Avery Elle pinked circle die cut, together with some ribbon from my stash.

Hope you are enjoying the best. weekend. ever. Wherever you are!

Happy Today with FUSION...

This fortnight I was inspired by both the FUSION sketch (in mirror reverse) and this gorgeous image, with its ombre colours and old book print. I created both the watercolour panel and the book paper panel by inking one side of Tim Holtz Faded Dots stencil using Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey and Scattered Straw, then spritzing and pressing the mask into the paper panels. Then added three Prima butterflies (the top butterfly is actually pink, but it kept photographing as red!), and two Studio Calico wood veneer words to create this birthday card.

How will you be inspired by this fortnights FUSION - will you use this fabulous sketch, or pull inspiration from this gorgeous inspiration photo or BOTH?!?

How to join in the fun...
1. Play with just the sketch challenge.
2. Play with just the inspiration photo challenge.
3. Or you can create FUSION by combining BOTH challenges into one card.
4. Use the challenge graphic and link back to Fusion in your post.
